This all started in Ye Olde Mitre Arms on "Call Everyone Dave Day" on 8th February 2015 in honour of "Trigger" - Roger Lloyd Pack (8/2/1944 - 15/1/2014) - from "Only Fools and Horses". It has since spread to other pubs as staff move on and customers expand to enjoy other hostelleries.

Even when Rodney and Cassandra were expecting a child, he said, "If it's a girl they're gonna name it Sigourney, after the actress. And if it's a boy they're gonna name him Rodney, after Dave".

He also said he'd had the same broom for 20 years - "This old broom's had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time".

According to Wikipedia, the title was based on a genuine, though very obscure, 19th-century American vaudeville saying, "why do only fools and horses work? For a living", part of which is in the opening lyrics.
